Meet The Founder

felix marquez

Felix Marquez, BA, NRP

President & CEO

He is a well-respected veteran in the emergency medical field with over twenty-five years of experience. Mr. Marquez began his career as a Paramedic for the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). He currently serves the great City of Orlando as Certified Paramedic/Firefighter. Mr. Marquez has over twenty years of instructor experience.

Mr. Marquez currently travels the county providing cadaver training to healthcare professional and the United States Military. He has published his research on Flipped Education and is one of the authors for Jones & Bartlett EMT Flipped Classroom. Mr. Marquez brings with him years of education and experience, having served as faculty of La Guardia and Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City. Mr. Marquez currently serves as the President Elect for the Florida Association of EMS Educators (FAEMSE). He is also a Veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

Abigail Marquez

Vice President / Director of Operations

Abigail’s diverse background brings twenty (20) years’ experience in the field of business administration and management. She brings administrative and office management skills to OMI with over ten years experience as a Legal supervisor for a local Law firm and six years in the business administration field. Abigail attended Valencia Community College and the University of Central Florida. She carries a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Business Administration. Abigail has also taken additional courses to enhance her managerial and supervisory skills. She continues to stay informed attending workshops and various seminars.

ayanna walker

Ayanna Walker, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Walker is a board certified emergency medicine physician who practices as an attending physician at Osceola Regional Medical Center. She was born in Lakeland, Florida, earned her Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree at the University if Miami, and then went on to obtain a medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta.

She completed a three-year residency in Emergency Medicine at Orlando Health and stayed an additional year, as a fellow of Emergency Medical Services Director of Orange County Emergency Medical Services. She has since then worked in a Level I Trauma Center, while also working in community hospitals like Lakeland Health and Health Central Hospital. She is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine for the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and currently serves as the Medical Director at Orlando Medical Institute and the Medical Director for Osceola Fire Rescue, St. Cloud Fire Rescue, and Kissimmee Fire Department.

Greg Wommack

Greg Wommack, BS, PMD

EMS Program Director

Mr. Wommack was appointed Program Director of EMS Education for the EMT/Paramedic Program in April 2018. After serving two enlistments in the United States Marine Corps, he began his career in Emergency Medicine in 1997. Having over 20 years of public service combined with 15 years in the fire service, Mr. Wommack is currently employed with Osceola County Fire Rescue. As an EMS Captain for his Department for several years, he established an in-house paramedic program that added over 60 paramedics to the department. Because of the success and strict adherence to statutory requirements, the State adopted the program model for others to emulate. His passion has always been about sharing his knowledge, while gaining insight on various perspectives provided by educators in academia. Mr. Wommack’s goal is to explore the principles, concepts, and established foundations in EMS by overseeing a well-designed educational system that is poised to contribute to your success and preparedness as an emergency medical provider from Orlando Medical Institute. Mr. Wommack received his Bachelor of Science in Fire Science Administration at Waldorf College.

Pamela Davidson-Gordon, BSN, MSN

Nursing Program Director

Mrs. Davidson-Gordon was appointed Director of Nursing Education for the Associates Degree of Nursing Program in 2016. She is a graduate of Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York (CUNY) where she earned an Associates of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) and Bachelors in Nursing (BSN). In 2010 she graduated from Walden University with a Master’s of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management degree. She is an experienced critical care nurse who functions as a nurse leader and educator and has great interpersonal and team building skills. She has a proven track record in identifying and implementing evidence-based practice within nursing and the healthcare environment. Mrs. Davidson-Gordon is passionate about patient safety and quality care.

She is experienced in educating nurses and nursing students in the acute care, sub-acute and homecare settings. She has held positions as Medical Surgical and Critical Care Staff Nurse, Hospital Nursing Supervisor, Assistant Nurse Manager, Assistant Director of Nursing, and Nursing Educator. Mrs. Davidson-Gordon served as a primary preceptor for new graduate nurses and participated in multiple interdisciplinary committees with a focus on patient safety during and after a hospital stay. In addition, she participated in nursing presentations and research projects. Mrs. Davidson-Gordon is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

Sarah Glass, BS, NRP

Director of Online Education

Sarah Glass has been a State of Florida Paramedic since June of 2014 from Orlando Medical Institute. In May of 2011 she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology, with a minor in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Sarah currently resides in Melbourne, Florida where she works as a paramedic in the emergency department with Florida Hospital.

Sarah teaches online Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology courses for the Associates of Science in Nursing program at Orlando Medical Institute; and also teaches online Microbiology for American Medical Academy in Miami.

Michael Hislop AS, ASN, NRP

Paramedic Lead Instructor

Mr. Hislop is currently a full-time educator at Orlando Medical Institute. Mr. Hislop has over 25 years of EMS experience. Mr. Hislop carries ACLS, PALS, AMLS, and PHTLS provider and instructor. Mr. Hislop had many years of teaching paramedics and EMT’s here at Orlando Medical Institute and Lake Tech Community College. Mr. Hislop is a motivated instructor with a true passion for teaching Emergency Medicine in any capacity. Mr. Hislop has recently graduated with his ASN and currently hold he license as a Registered Nurse. Mr. Hislop is a veteran in EMS Education and a unique talent of taking something so complex and breaking it down into simple language which we all can understand.

Chris Wiltz, AA, NRP

EMT/Paramedic Lab Instructor

Chris Wiltz studied Kinesiology and Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina, prior to entering EMS. In 2007 he attended OMI and was the valedictorian of Medic 8. Chris has worked for multiple Fire and EMS agencies in the Central Florida region in the roll of Field Training Officer, EMS Captain, and Preceptor. Chris joined OMI staff late 2010 as a lab instructor. Throughout his time at OMI he has utilized his training and to build and execute some of the most incredible medical and trauma scenarios ever utilized in EMS education. Word of these scenarios spread and in 2014 by way of EMLRC completed a three-month statewide PHTLS mobile training program encompassing over thirty paid and volunteer Fire and EMS departments.  In 2016 he attended the acclaimed University of Maryland- Baltimore Campus and earned his Critical Care Paramedic license, with a focus in aeronautical medicine, neuromuscular blockade and advanced airway management. Chris is currently a Firefighter/Paramedic with Osceola County Fire Rescue.

Marcus Thomas, AS, NRP

EMT Lab Instructor

Marcus is currently a Paramedic/firefighter for the City of Orlando Fire Department. He has been serving his community for over 5 years now. Marcus has been an EMT and Paramedic lab Instructor for Orlando Medical institute for over a year. Marcus enjoys spending time with the students to educate with the knowledge he has experienced over his career.  He has exceeded many expectations at such a young age. Marcus has also obtained many instructor courses which include ACLS, PALS, CPR, & TECC. He is still continuing his education at Orlando Medical Institute & Valencia.

Gary Gratz

Gary Gratz, PMD

EMT / Paramedic Instructor

Mr. Gratz is a 9 years veteran in the fire service. Mr. Gratz is currently a paramedic/firefighter and a Field Training Officer with Lake County Fire Department. Mr. Gratz has helped his EMS chief with the development of an in-house paramedic program. Mr. Gratz has been a paramedic for 9 years and instructor for over 4 years. Mr. Gratz holds provider and instructor certifications in ACLS, PALS, and CPR. Mr. Gratz is very passionate about EMS education and always looking to go an extra mile for his students.

Alex Klepper, PMD

EMT/Paramedic Lead Instructor

Alex Klepper is a Firefighter/Paramedic with 12 years of dedicated experience in the field of Fire and EMS. He is currently proudly employed as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Apopka Fire Department. Over the years Alex has spent his time in multiple positions in the prehospital field of work not only as a provider but also as a field-training officer. Alex brings his wealth of real life experience and education to his student’s day in and day out. As a former student of Orlando Medical Institute, Alex strives to create the best possible experience for his students so they can achieve their goals in this field and beyond.

Meet Our Nursing Educators

Yvonne Jimenez, MSN, RN

Nursing Instructor

Mrs. Jimenez obtained her BSN from Interamerican University in 1988; graduating CUM LAUDE. She is a master’s prepared nurse since 2013 with a concentration in Nursing Education from Kaplan University and is passionate about helping nursing students achieve their educational goals. She has over 20 years of solid experience and education in prevailing nursing teaching, ICU practice, patient care school nurse and staff/students education. As an educator, she teaches fundamentals of nursing, medical and surgical, maternity, pediatric nursing among other courses.

Susan McElvain, MSN, MSSL, RN

Nursing Instructor

Ms. McElvain primary areas of nursing practice are critical care and mental health. Susan earned a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University and a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Nursing Education from Aspen University. Ms. McElvain has been a mental health nursing instructor for many years and remains current in her nursing practice by still caring for patients at the bedside. She is an active participant in the Orlando chapter of critical care nurses and NAMI.

Roselyn Northover, MSSL, BSN, RN

Nursing Instructor

Mrs. Northover graduated with her Associate of Science in Nursing from Medgar Evers

College/CUNNY in 1997, a BSN in 2009 and Master of Science in Strategic Leadership in 2011 from Mountain State University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership. She has extensive experiences in Cardiovascular-Open Heart, Neurological & Medical ICU; Progressive Care/ Telemetry; and Medical/Surgical Step-down. Throughout her nursing career, she has been a mentor and preceptor to other nurses and students. Mrs. Northover has a passion for teaching and takes pride on training her students to be safe professional nurses.

Odette Taylor, MSN, RN

Nursing Instructor

Mrs. Taylor career in nursing started in 2001 as an Associate Degree Registered Nurse. She earned a Bachelor Degree in Nursing in 2006 and went on to gain a Masters in Science Degree (MSN) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. She worked as a Registered Nurse on the Cardiac Interventional Unit for seven years and was the Assistant Nurse Manager for the unit the remaining four years. She has been teaching nursing students since 2010 both in the classroom and clinical settings. Her passion for the nursing profession and nursing education has drove her to obtain her mission of producing not just more nurses in the community, but competent nurses. Mrs. Taylor is known by her students to break down difficult nursing concepts to their understanding. She always takes the necessary steps to make sure nursing students grasp the concepts they need to be successful.

Michael Crooks, BSN, RN

Nursing Instructor

Mr. Crooks received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Millers College of Nursing. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing Education program at Western Governors University. Michael has over 11 years of nursing experience in the areas of emergency nursing, trauma, PACU, psychiatric, long-term care, and correctional nursing. Prior to becoming a registered nurse, he worked as a licensed practical nurse and as a certified nursing assistant. Michael currently works as an emergency department registered nurse in addition to his instructional duties.

Penelope Houk, BS

A.S. Degree Instructor

In August of 2009 she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Communications and Humanities from Florida State University. She is currently enrolled in Florida International University to fulfill requirements needed to apply to Medical school, while taking time to study for the MCATs. Ms. Houk is also currently teaching an online Humanities class for the Associates of Science in EMS programs.

Gabrielle Powers, MS

A.S. Degree Instructor

Gabrielle Powers is currently a professor in the studies of mathematics and Chemistry. Ms. Powers also has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from FIU and a Master’s in education, specializing in Chemistry. She also spends her days teaching high schoolers, College Algebra and Chemistry.

Joshua Cantor

A.S. Degree Instructor

Mr. Cantor holds her Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida. Mr. Cantor received her B.S. Psychology from the University of Florida with a minor in sociology. Mr. Cantor brings to his classroom and professional work environment an eclectic education and a zealous commitment to excellence in all his endeavors.

Soraya Acosta, BS

A.S. Degree Instructor

Ms. Acosta holds her Bachelor of Science in Education, specializing in Language Arts from Nova Southeastern University. Ms. Acosta also helps other schools with their online educational courses. She sincerely loves being an educator. Ms. Acosta is also currently teaching an online English class for the Associates of Science in EMS programs.
